About Us

N2—Nicci Winrock and Neal Barman—both graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics from The Cleveland Institute of Art. In 2003 we moved to Rochester to begin building the N2 Clay Studio.

Our studio is built on a foundation of experiences, gained from over a decade of listening to, and collaborating with our clients.  Every project —big or small—comes with a great story. For us, developing relationships with our clients is just as fulfilling as the process of making.

We would love to hear from you! Please contact us with any questions, projects, or to arrange for an in studio or home consultation.

The Art of Making

N2 Clay Studio is a place of exploration, inspiration, and learning. It’s where we evolve our shapes, glazes, design and making processes. We believe in durability and quality—only creating well-made goods that stand the test of time.

Tough Love

Every piece begins with wet clay that is then formed, bisque fired, hand-glazed, and fired again to over 2,330°F. This makes our tile suitable for any indoor or outdoor installation & our tableware microwave and dishwasher safe.

Good Chemistry

Color is at the heart of N2 Clay Studio, and is as equally as important to us as form. Glazing is both an art and a science: we mix all of our glazes in small batches and dip each piece by hand. Variations in application as well as subtle differences in kiln temperature help create a unique degree of range in color and texture.

Neal loves working with clay and is our production guru. He wears many hats—he is our Inventor, Woodworker, Mold Maker, and Random Task Specialist which includes keeping the kiln gods well fed.

Nicci is suspicious about clay—clay is the bad boyfriend that drives her crazy but she can't break up with it. She loves developing new colors in the glaze lab, keeping our projects on schedule, and using a calculator for any reason.
